Tuesday Apr 14, 2009
Tuesday Apr 14, 2009
Linear periodization is by far the most popular way to design a mountain bike training program. While revolutionary when it was introduced to the USA back in the 60's and 70's, the truth is it is a fundamentaly flawed concept for your average mountain biker. Friday Apr 10, 2009
I just want to clarify a couple of points... If you think that most of my training advice is aimed at the gravity and freeride set then you've got it all wrong. If you think that an XC or trail rider needs some vastly different program than a 4X or DH rider then you've got it all wrong. If you think that the MTB Strength Training System isn't all about having more fun on your bike no matter what your riding style then you need to listen to this podcast.

Interview with Katrina Strand
Wednesday Apr 01, 2009
Wednesday Apr 01, 2009
Katrina Strand is a pro downhiller, event promoter, skills coach and she knows a few things about strength and conditioning for mountain bikers. While I knew who she was I recently came across an article of her's on www.pinkbike.com and was chocked to see someone else who shared my views on training for our unique sport. I knew that I needed to talk with her and it turns out she is as nice as she is talented. She agreed to do an interview for my podcast and we went over some great info.

Friday Mar 27, 2009
Friday Mar 27, 2009
The use of tempo with a strength training program is a bit of a controversial subject. In fact, its something I used a lot early in my career but not as much now. But I still think its important to understand. Find out why this is and how you can use and prioritize it in your training.

Is lactate threshold training needed?
Tuesday Mar 10, 2009
Tuesday Mar 10, 2009
I got a great question from a client of mine regarding the idea of lactate threshold training and if it is needed in a program. Listen in to hear why the whole concept of lactate threshold training is based on outdated ideas and why mountain bikers need to work on getting stronger with their anaerobic energy system, not training themselves to avoid it.
